Tell us about your role at Nightmarket and how long you’ve been with the company.

I’m the Senior Quality Assurance tester and have been at Nightmarket Games for nearly four years now.

What do you love most about your job?

I love helping our games be the best they can be. Not just by bringing up issues with quality, but giving people the information they need to solve problems – sometimes before they even know they need it. If I can shave the time of investigating a fix from hours to minutes, then I know I’m doing a good job.

What are your top games of all times and why?

I’m a sucker for the classic Super Nintendo trifecta of Super Mario World, Super Metroid and The Legend of Zelda: A Link To The Past. There is so much that modern games have to thank from these classics.

What are your hobbies outside of gaming?

Uhhh? I’m … making my own game? That doesn’t technically count as gaming, right? I also hit the gym often – but mostly to make up for the fact that I sit around so much.

Describe your dream project

A while ago I was on a testing team for a well known survival game and that was pretty great. So if I could do that, but with all the people I’m working with right now that’d be even better!

What advice do you give for anyone aspiring to get into game development?

Game development is very difficult. No one job is easier than the other, but there is a place for nearly every skill in games. I’ve often felt like I couldn’t imagine doing anything else, and that’s what has kept me going. I’d recommend they download literally any game engine they can and play around with it. Unreal, Unity, or heck, even Roblox! Play an hour or two fewer games and put it towards tinkering in an engine and I promise you’ll learn more about game development than you thought possible.

What are your core beliefs when it comes to your job?

Keep communication clear and concise. Don’t just focus on the bug – but also give them the information they need to find the source of the bug. Stay flexible and be ready for just about anything.

Any parting words?

My time at Nightmarket Games has been my best in the game industry and I’m so glad to be working beside everyone at the company. I feel as important as any other member of the team given the chance to grow in the role. I’m looking forward to seeing where this road leads for all of us!
